2 Peter 1

Growth in Christian Virtue

1
Two early mss read Simeon
Simon Peter, a bbond-servant and capostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have received da faith of the same

kind as ours,
Or in
by gthe righteousness of hour God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
2 iGrace and peace be multiplied to you in jthe knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3seeing that His kdivine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true lknowledge of Him who mcalled us

by His own glory and

excellence.

Lit Through which (things)
For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent qpromises, so that by them you may become rpartakers of the divine nature, having sescaped the tcorruption that is in uthe world by lust.
5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith vsupply wmoral
Or virtue
excellence, and in your moral excellence, yknowledge,
6and in your knowledge, zself-control, and in your self-control, aaperseverance, and in your perseverance, abgodliness, 7and in your godliness, acbrotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor adunfruitful in the true aeknowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9For he who lacks these qualities is afblind or short-sighted, having forgotten his agpurification from his former sins. 10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His ahcalling and aichoosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never ajstumble; 11for in this way the entrance into akthe eternal kingdom of our alLord and Savior Jesus Christ will be amabundantly ansupplied to you.

12Therefore, aoI will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in apthe truth which is present with you. 13I consider it aqright, as long as I am in arthis earthly dwelling, to asstir you up by way of reminder, 14knowing that atthe laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, auas also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my avdeparture you will be able to call these things to mind.

Eyewitnesses

16For we did not follow cleverly devised awtales when we made known to you the axpower and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were ayeyewitnesses of His majesty. 17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an

made to Him by the bcMajestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—
18and we ourselves heard this

utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the beholy mountain.

Or We have the even more sure prophetic word
So we have bgthe prophetic word made more bhsure, to which you do well to pay attention as to bia lamp shining in a dark place, until the bjday dawns and the bkmorning star arises blin your hearts.
20But bmknow this first of all, that bnno prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21for bono prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men bpmoved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
